Since I'm pretty sure with XL the coating is the only thing that makes it time released, cutting it in half would effectively produce Wellbutrin standard release, correct? AKA since 2x daily 150mg Wellbutrin SR = 1x 300mg Wellbutrin XL one could simply cut the XL pill in half to produce the same medication in standard release form.Sorry I meant immediate release, anyway, I'm going to do some more research on it. I'm pretty sure I read its just the shell that releases it slowly.



Wellbutrin XL, cut in half would be Wellbutrin SR?

Wellbutrin XL is time released due to its coating that has microscopic holes slowly releasing the medication. I have gone up to the 300mg and felt very mild effects. As well I have honestly never responded well to anything time released.Anyway, would cutting the pills directly in half be the same as Wellbutrin immediate release? I quite positive it would be yet would like to hear some thoughts. I am going to try 150mg twice a day as directed with Wellbutrin SR, as opposed to the 300mg XL once a day.Thanks!The first two answers really did not help. Cutting Wellbutrin XL in half, would make it immediate release?

I've tried Paxil (for two years) for anxiety/depression. Switched to Wellbutrin (tried both SR and XL - from 150mg-300mg) and was on that for four months. Now my doctor added Cipralex (Lexapro) a week ago, starting with 1/2 tablet then on to 1 tablet after ten days. The thing is - all these antidepressants that I've tried work for me for about two to three days. They work EXCELLENT and then they abruptly stop. I've dealt with major depression for about 12 years now. I am starting to think nothing will ever work for me. I am a total bitch to everyone around me. I've ruined relationships, friendships, jobs, etc. all because of this. I haven't truly been happy since I was 15 years old. I am now 28. I feel terrible. Anybody else out there who's experienced this same situation with antidepressants that I have? What's up?! How can my body get used to antidepressants in two or three days?!



Why do antidepressants stop working for me after a few days?

Your experience with Wellbutrin-SR?

I was prescribed Wellbutrin SL by my doctor yesterday. I realized after I got home that it says to take 100mg once a day. After reading the paperwork that came with the meds, I learned that this is usually taken twice a day (half-life maybe?). Wellbutrin XL is the kind that is normally taken once a day. Is anyone else taking Wellbutrin (Bupropian) SR only once a day? Why would my doctor be doing this?



Wellbutrin SL, 100mg once a day?

I have bupropion HCL XL 300 mg (substituted for: wellbutrin XL 300 mg) and Budeprion SR 150 mg (substituted for: wellbutrin SR 150 mg). I have been prescribed budeprion SR 150mg twice a day but I am running low with no refills and not a docs appointment anytime soon but i do have the XL one. so i wondering if i could cut the 300 mg in half and take that till i get my prescription? thanks



What is the difference between SR and XL when talking about medications?

I was taking Wellbutrin XL once a day in the morning. I had my prescription refilled and they gave me Wellbutrin SR at the same dosage instead with the same instruction to take once in the AM. Should I be concerned and call the pharmacy to find out why they did that or just go ahead and take the SR? I read that with the faster absorption rate of the SR, it could cause a dip in the amount in my blood stream before my next dose if only taken once a day. That is NOT acceptable given the reason I'm taking it, it's affectiveness would be declining right when I need it most.



Wellbutrin SR or XL- my pharmacy messed up?

I've recently switched from name brand Wellbutrin XL to the generic Budurpion XL for the second time. The first time I was taking 300mg, and when I switched to generic 300mg i noticed major mood swings especially at night. So I switched back to name brand, but I noticed the side effects were too much...so the doc changed dosage to 150 mg. I was flying high and doing great, when suddenly they came out with generic 150mg and I had to switch for insurance purposes....and of course, it's Budurpion. Well, one week on it and i'm going crazy already. My question is, has anyone had the same thing happen to them with the SR? I noticed that the generic for SR was Bupriopion, not Budurpion, is there a difference between the two generics?



Is generic Wellbutrin SR better that generic Wellbutrin XL?

Okay, so I recognize the difference in these medications as far as the chemical make-up and when the medication is released in the body (SR= sustained release, XL = extended release)...but honestly, what is the difference? I take 150mg of SR twice/daily but doctors seem hesitant to put me on once daily XL. I feel confused about this. Are there generics of each medication available and what is the big deal?Side note: I have had gastric bypass surgery....not sure if this affects anything with medications.
