I take Paxil 10 mg....4 yrs...for Panic Attacks ..Cant lose weight/Keep gaining..Should I switch to Wellbutrin?

Here are my symptoms:-I have an obsessive and irrational fear of gaining weight and becoming obese. If I weigh myself and note that I have gained weight, even if it's just two or three pounds, I have a panic attack. (Which is why I stopped weighing myself.) This fear goes back as far as age 8. I don't remember a time in my life when gaining weight didn't bother me. Also, I do not like being seen in public with overweight people. I have no rational reasoning for this and feel like an extremely terrible person for this.-I frequently starve myself for extended periods of time. It's commonplace for me to go two or three or four days without eating anything. When I began starving myself, about three years ago, it was on purpose so I wouldn't gain weight and I went for much longer. Once I passed out because I hadn't eaten in roughly two weeks. Now, I mainly don't eat because it slips my mind since my hunger sense is basically shot and doesn't kick in until I haven't eaten for a couple of days. -After days of self-starvation, usually when I'm alone, I will engage in binge-eating. I begin to eat and then it's like I can't stop myself. I keep eating and eating as if I'll never eat again and I can't control it. I tell myself to stop, but I won't until I'm full to the point that my stomach hurts and feels like I'm going to throw up. I never throw anything up though. There have been two instances in my life in which I threw up after a binge, but I haven't in at least two years. After a binge I'll typically feel guilty about it and think that I've instantly become obese, and thus I'll engage in starving myself for a few days to try and lose the weight I feel like I've gained. I will feel depressed for a few hours following a binge (I also have dysthymic disorder, but am on Wellbutrin. The depressive symptoms never last more than a few hours when I'm medicated. Originally, I thought the lack of appetite was a symptom of depression, but after getting "better" the eating problems remained.)-If I do weigh myself, I will set weight goals for myself, but in all honesty, I'm never thin enough. For instance, I will say "Everything will be fine and dandy if I weigh 103LBS." Then I'll get down to 103 and think "You know, this is good, but 100 would be better." And then it keeps getting less and less. Therefore, I've stopped weighing myself so I can't really set goals.Other information that may be important:-I used to engage in self-injurious behaviour such as cutting and burning. This was five years of my life. -I've been hospitalized for a suicide attempt.-I've been on three different types of anti-depressants.-My father left when I was six and I've suffered abandonment issues ever since.-As a child I was an extreme perfectionist. I tried so hard to please everyone and be the perfect child because I felt nobody would like me if I had flaws. Today, I'm not a perfectionist as such, but I do try really hard to keep everyone around me happy even if it's making me miserable.-My mother has been hospitalized for depression and eating disorders in her past. Often as a child I would hear her talking about how she HAD to lose weight, so I guess I always associated weight as being bad. I've been reading up on Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosaa nd found that each has two sub-types. Anorexia has restrictive and binge-eating; Bulimia has purging and non-purging. Binge-eating Anorexia and Non-purging Bulimia seem to me to be exactly the same and now I'm all confused as to which best suites my situation. Could anybody possibly help me with this?

Binge-Eating Anorexia or Non-Purging Bulimia?

I've been seeing a lot about phentermine lately. From what I gather it's a prescription diet pill that actually works. Is that correct? My doctor is kind of 'anti-medication'. I went to him before about weight loss advice thinking (hoping) he would prescribe me some kind of diet pill only to be told he doesn't like prescribing amphetamines. Period. He prescribed Wellbutrin because one of the side effects is weight loss. It didn't work. Not even a little. What I'm looking for is something that will boost my energy ( a lot ) and suppress my appetite without making me feel like I have to throw up all the time. Can anyone advise me on what I can take that will do this (that you know works) and that is OTC due to my doctor's stance on weight-loss meds?In the event that I switch doctors, or convince my doctor that I need something like this to be able to lose weight, does insurance cover weight-loss meds? I have Blue Cross First Priority insurance. Thanks for any info/advice you can give.***I understand that I will need to change my diet and exercise more. I'm all about that! But I need the added boost of energy to get me started. I am NOT looking for lectures on any of this and I am not looking to be told that I don't need a diet pill (or something similar) to get me started. ***

Question about diet pills?

Is it a safe and effective medication to take? Have you experienced any adverse side effects? I've never taken any antidepressants but I feel like I need one because I've been depressed ever since losing four loved ones in one year. I am a senior in high school with an insanely busy schedule, so I really don't have the time to see a therapist. Will the medication work on it's own? I just feel really apathetic and numb sometimes, and like rolling up into a ball and sobbing other times. I never sleep anymore because that's when all the memories flood in. I'll go for days on end without more than an hour or two of sleep. I took Ambien once and it made me hallucinate, so I don't want to take sleeping pills.I've heard that anti-depressants can make you gain a ton of weight. I'm a model, so I cannot gain weight. Will Wellbutrin be a problem? Which is better Wellbutrin or Zoloft? My doctor mentioned both.THANKS EVERYONE!

What are your experiences with Wellbutrin?

Ok here's the deal:I went on Zoloft at the beginning of September to help with freshmen year college anxiety. It worked wonders for my social anxiety, but it did lead to a 15+ pound weight gain. This weight gain was NOT the "freshmen 15." I am extremely obsessive about my weight and refuse to eat the junk they serve here. I don't eat any meat besides fish, and my biggest meal of the day consists of tuna on salad with a lot of veggies and low fat balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I went to my doctor with my concerns and she said that the Zoloft probably messed with my metabolism. So she put me on Wellbutrin XL (generic). I have been on 300 mg for about four weeks now. Despite exercising for an hour each day and eating healthily, I feel as though I have lost absolutely nothing. I am scared to weigh myself because whenever I do now, I go into another fit of depression! I do not have the appetite suppressant feeling that a lot of people talk about on Wellbutrin. I do however feel as though I am extremely alert and focused and get a lot more done in the day, which is probably a good sign of my metabolism returning to normal?I have also been suffering from a compulsive "eating disorder not otherwise specified," chew & spit for about a year and a half. If you don't know, it's exactly what it sounds like, when I am stressed or sad I will chew a bunch of sweets or forbidden foods up and then spit them out. Gross I know. I have read that doing this can raise insulin levels and make it very difficult to lose weight (although I actually lost weight when I wasn't on any anti-depressants). Since being on Wellbutrin I have been able to start weening off of this disgusting behavior, but do still mess up sometimes. My question is, if I fully quit this eating disorder behavior, continue to diet and exercise, but still take Wellbutrin (I feel like it's helping), will I eventually be able to lose this weight? I feel like I should have seen results by now, but maybe I have to be more patient...I have heard that Wellbutrin is not supposed to cause weight GAIN but will it actually allow me to LOSE if I keep working at it? I couldn't lose on Zoloft no matter how hard I tried. Thanks for any answers.

Wellbutrin XL weight loss/eating disorder?

About a month and a half ago I was put on Zoloft and Wellbutrin. I used to eat quite a bit before, but now since I've been on these medications I never feel like eating, I can go an entire day without wanting to eat. Will this make me lose weight? And does anyone have an explanation on why It's having this effect on me? And I'm 17 if that helps.

Question with Zoloft, Wellbutrin and weight loss.?

I have taken paxil and it really calmed me down, but made me gain 50 lbs, so i tried celexa and it made me gain about 15 for the month I was on it. So I am wanting to try Wellbutrin, only problem I am worried about is if it will make my mood swings worse. I freak out about everything, and battle mood swings when not on meds. Please will someone tell me if taking Wellbutrin with Klonopin will work for me. I forgot to mention I also take Klonopin 2 mg a day for anxiety, and panic attacks. I heard Wellbutrin makes you lose rather than gain weight. I am a walking time bomb right now getting off of Celexa. Please someone let me know.

Will Wellbutrin make my mood swings worse?

i was still anxious on wellbutrin but i lost weight. now the pharmacy gave me the generic and i dont feel good on it my stomach hurts. the pharmacict said its the same is it? i went to my gyn and now im taking the lowest dose prempro and i feel stressed because of the breast cancer warnings ,but my gyn said it was safe because im 49 just starting periomenopause i never had breast cancer no one in my family had it but my mom died of chest sarcoma which wasnt breast cancer and not heriditary. i gained 5 lbs and my stomach feels bloated i switch from wellbutrin because i found out wellbutrin was making my hot flashs worse i feel tired all the time and warm. and no one knows how i feel what can i do to fix my life. also if the prempro works how long does it take and will it make me gain more weight?

i was takiing effexor an paxil but i gained a lot of weight.(for periomenopause) then wellbutrin

I've been taking them for years, & I see how most people have more energy than me. I'm 24 now. I was 14 & didn't have as much energy as the people my age. & this lack of motivation & energy is affecting my weight & my health. I take Clonidine, Luvox, & Wellbutrin. I wish I was more active & less sedentary. & I heard that since I'm almost 25, my metabolism will slow down, & it will be harder to lose weight. I don't have any kids.I suffer OCD, anxiety, depression, & Tourette's. These meds also increase your appetite & make you drowsy. I'm 5'2" & weigh about 285. Many people say I have a naturally petite body frame. People think I'm just lazy, crazy, & greedy by eating enormous amounts of food. I'm glad to be on Wellbutrin since my appetite is low. But I'm still sluggish & depressed.
