Can not figure these answers out for the life of me!?

Want to hear some honest opinions please. This regarding a personal friend of mine and I want to hear some personal experiences or your thoughts or opinions pls. Thanks!STORY - The girl has chronic pain and takes lots of narcotics a month, Norco and Dilaudid routinely, but has done this for 15+ years. She does not display any type of drug seeking behavior or being an addict, but is dependent on these drugs to function. She keeps her appt every month and takes her medicine as prescribed. She has depressive disorder that set in upon her diagnosis of chronic disease/pain which she is prescribed Wellbutrin SR for X3 yrs now. Now, she has always displayed symptoms of ADHD but recently she has been complaining of "feeling like she is driven by a motor and insomnia". Now I feel like she has had ADHD all of her life and is just now being diagnosed with it. She is 30 yrs old. First her MD started on Straterra, 2 weeks go by and no change. Then onto Concerta, (Ritalin ER type drug) this worked well during the day but she suffered from severe abdominal pain. Then she was changed to Daytrana, (pretty much Ritalin in a patch) but had no effects from this. At this point - her MD went to a medication called "Intuiv" which made her feel lousy but it looks like it is used for ADHD. Now she is started on a medicine called Symbyax. This is really strange for me to understand since it's not used for ADHD at all. She definitely has a diagnosis of adult ADHD medically documented so why isn't her doctor prescribing her the medications that is typically used for adult ADHD?? If the Concerta worked, why wouldn't her doctor prescribe her a short-acting Ritalin or Adderral or Vyvanse?? I guess I'm confused and really wanting to know if she is being penalized for her narcotic use and if you feel this is hindering the MD's decision to adequately treat her?? She is not allowed to go see another doctor for her ADHD because she is under a narcotic contract with her MD and seeing another doctor is prohibited - she has already asked....so is she stuck?? She likes her doctor and doesn't want to change so this isn't an option. She has random drug screens and has always been in compliance with her medication regimen. She has 3 children and works hard. So what's the deal?? Do you think her MD will eventually prescribe her something that is actually used for adult ADHD, which is also a stimulant or a controlled drug, or do you think he'll continue to prescribe all the anti-depressants until she decides to stop seeking treatment?? He must not be concerned with prescribing controlled drugs because he is the one who prescribes her narcotics every month.....Please no rude answers - my friend really needs help/advice and I'm running out of excuses for her doctor! Thanks in advance!Sorry so long, but no other choice! My friend comes to me after each appt. I am a nurse practioner and I know what I would do if I were her caregiver. But we both decided that it would be best to have her see someone else. To not support her when she is upset would be not being her best friend. I simply wanted other's personal experiences pls. Thx.

ADHD and different medicines...?

I've read about them online and I started both of them yesterday but I was just wondering if anyone is on either one of these pills that can share personal experience with them. Please don't quote articles because I've read them. I just want to know your side effects and how they've helped you. Also what are you prescribed these drugs for? I'm on the wellbutrin for depression and the gabapentin as a mood stabilizer to take the edge off of my anxiety and frustration. Thanks for your answers. I currently take Klonopin but I take it to fall asleep or if I'm having severe anxiety. I have a one year old so I can't really take Klonopin in the middle of my day regularly. The gabapentin seems to work for calming me down some whether it's just in my head or not. I was previously on Depakote which helped me but caused me to gain weight which is a side effect that I can't live with because it effected my self-esteem. Either way thank you both for your answers!

Anyone taking gabapentin or wellbutrin?

From the age of about 11 or 12 to the age of 15, I was on Concerta. I've been off of Concerta for about 4 years now. I think it's in my best interest to get back on some form of medication to treat my depression and ADD. I can't afford a psychiatrist with the ability to prescribe medication, so next time I go to the doctor (appointment is scheduled for this upcoming Monday) I figured I'd ask for a prescription from him. I've heard pretty good things about Wellbutrin. My friend says the only side effects he's been getting are dry mouth. My question is if there are any other common side effects (namely weight loss or sex drive decrease) that I'd want to be aware about and if the side effects for Wellbutrin are too much, a different prescription that you'd recommend. Also, my weight is currently 149, so what would my dosage be?

Wellbutrin side effects and dosage?

I've been taking Wellbutrin XL 150mg for about 5 months now, and at first I was doing well, but about a month ago I fell back into an even worse depression and even now I never want to leave the house. My therapist suggested I have my medication either increased or changed to something different, since I've been having frequent suicidal thoughts, so I saw my doctor today and he prescribed me Cipralex 10 mg, to go along with the Wellbutrin. Has anyone had experience with this medication? From what I read the side effects are usually stomach upset and loss of appetite but I'm just wondering if there's any other concerning factors I should consider. Any advice is welcome. Thank you in advance.

Question about Cipralex 10 mg?

i recently found out that paxil has many side effects to the baby during pregnancy. so i called my dr, whom i havnt seen yet, (i have an upcoming apt) , to see what i should do. i cant just stop using it because ive been on antidepressants for 7 years, although i would like to stop,i was down to 10 mg everyother day, but i often get vicious side effects like 'zaps' and rapid heart beats when i go cold turkey.so with out knowing my medical history she switched me to wellbutrian. i am taking 100 mg tablets 2 times a day. i dont know what to think about this. i hate antidepressants and i just want to get off of them, i feel its crap that they put me on them so young, when they should have just told me its okay to be upset, sad, angry. teens go through that. so now here i am trying to get off this medicine and the dr prescribed me more, i just need some input.anyone else use wellbutrin during pregnancy?well, i understand i probably SHOULD have donte some reseach when i was 15, although most 15 yr olds dont.and now ive been on it for 7 years and as you can see from what i wrote, im trying to get off of it, but you cant just STOP taking med you've been on for 7 years with out some wicked side effects.

switching from paxil to wellbutrian during pregnancy?

Hi all- I'm a 24 y/o female who has a huge fear of blood work... completely irrational, I know... I have issues with Aniexty/Panic Disorder in general and am on Wellbutrin (For about a month now- seems to work-- was on effexor; had weight gain). My Dr prescribed me 1 mg dose of Ativan for when I have severe attacks; basically as needed. I was prescribed 5 pills last April and I still have 2 left (now expired)... Also I have been seeing a psychologist to work on my issues as well as my fear of blood work. What do you all think about me taking an Ativan prior to the blood work? I know it's a crutch, but maybe the first time I have the test done it will calm me, for me to realize that blood work isn't a big deal? I want to have children someday soon, and I am only fearful of the blood work associated with a pregnancy (And I will def get it done to be sure everything is OK) and I know I will not be able to use Ativan as a cructh then...Your input is greatly appreciated!!!I am having blood work done for a life ins policy and basically to calm myself down and 'get over my fear.' I thought I was OK with it, but I am FREAKING out and wondering if it would be OK to take an Ativan prior to the blood draw to calm myself down.

Ativan to calm me for blood work? HELP ME PLEASE!!!?

I am a 14 year old boy and last night i developed some pain in my abdominal area. I assumed it was just a stomachache or gas but when i woke up the next morning the pain was still there and has been there all day. It hurts to the touch and at times when i walk, but nothing severe. The pain is centered to the right and slightly below my belly button, and around where my is appendix, near to my left hip bone. I can feel stinging pain up and down that side. The pain is not major, but it does hurt to the touch, i have to press with a bit of force to feel any pain and go into my abdominal muscle. I haven't had any nausea i do have a a slight loss of appetite, but i believe that has to do with the Wellbutrin pills ive been prescribed and have been taking for a couple weeks. Ive had a bit of gas, and can sometimes feel "gurgling" in my stomach which makes me believe it might just be cramps but i am not sure. I can feel a slight pain when i flex my abdominal muscles, and all day my stomach has felt a bit bloated and full. i repeat its only been a day and a half since this started and i have had no pain before hand, but i am a bit worried, Please Help. What might this be?

Is it Appendicitis? Please Help.?

I am curious as to how Bupropion (Wellbutrin) might affect someone with Bipolar II Disorder.I've read that it can cause a manic episode in Bipolar I patients, so I assume the same would be true with the hypomanic episodes in Bipolar II sufferers. My biggest question is approximately how long a manic/hypomanic episode might occur after taking 150mg of Bupropion XL daily?I ask this because I was prescribed Lithium and Sertraline about a year ago, but stopped taking them before I could see any effects.I'm 17 f 5'4" 105 lbs. very small "frail" frame.I hadn't taken any medication for about a year and a half up until about a month ago.Prescribed clonazepam (klonopin) 0.5 mg twice a day.I was taking 10 mg of citalopram (celexa) daily for about a month, but it made me bruise all over.I just took my first dose of the Bupropion (150 mg xl) today, but seeing as Bipolar Disorder has been discussed in the past as a diagnosis, I became curious.I guess if nothing else this will be a determining factor in my diagnosis! (Which there never seems to be a definite one.)Sorry for the lengthy question, just wanted to give all the details and see what good advice I might find.Thank you!

Bupropion hcl (Wellbutrin) xl and Bipolar Disorder?

Both of my parents, and both of my brothers have been diagnosed with either ADD or ADHD. I am now 24 years old, and after having problems getting stuff done, and always being late along with other problems, my mom thought it would be good to talk to my doctor about being tested for adult ADHD. I went to my doctor, which is different than my families since I live in another state. I explained to him that my mom and one of my brothers have responded really good to Dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine) and that if any medication, I would like to try that first. Well he was against that, and started me on Strattera. I had a really bad reaction to Strattera, worst of all, I couldn't urinate at all on the medicine. Not until it wore off, and then I would pee like crazy. I called in and they switched me to Concerta. I took the script to my pharmacist, and they said the doc forgot his DEA code and more information, so I had to go all the way back to my doctor to get that fixed. When I started the Concerta, I had horrible upper abdominal cramps, and headaches. I took it for 3 1/2 weeks hoping that the side effects would go away, and they were the same, maybe even a little worse. I also had no more concentration from this medicine, and was still jumping from incomplete task to another incomplete task. So I went back today for a med check, and he decided to take me off of Concerta. He said that getting abdominal pain and headaches from Concerta means that I am sensitive to all Stimulants, and that he didnt want me on any stimulants at all now. I explained that I was sleeping fine and my appetite was fine on the medicine, so how would I be sensitive to it? Also upper abdominal pain and headaches are side effects for Concerta alone. My feeling is that he just prescribed me a medication with tons of side effects, so when I complained about them, he could avoid the whole class of ADHD drugs altogether. He decided to start me on Wellbutrin instead. I have read that there are a lot of different medications for ADHD and Wellbutrin is not the first choice. Why would he rule out all CNS ADHD drugs, if I had a bad reaction to 1? Why wouldnt he even try me out on what's working good for my family? Is he jacking me around, or is this normal practice. I feel like im not getting real answers, or real help from this guy. Just a bunch of expensive meds, and office visits. I need another doctors opinion please. This is very frustrating.
