I've been on Wellbutrin XL for 18 months. Started out at 150mg which worked well for about 4 months and then Doctor upped me to 300mg which worked well for about a year. Doctor gave me the option of getting off of Wellbutrin and starting a new antidepressant (she's suggesting either Effexor XR or Pristiq) or adding something to the Wellbutrin. I went with option #2, first we tried Pamelor (nortriptiline) which didn't do a thing at all, and then we tried Trazodone which was disastrous!!!I'm wondering if anyone has been in the same situation and how they resolved it? Has anyone been successful adding something to their Wellbutrin for it to work better or did you change to a new drug altogether?My Doctor usually gives me a couple options to choose from since this is all trial and error. I want to get some research done before my next appointment so I can be somewhat prepared.Thanks



Has anyone had Wellbutrin XL stop working for them?

I take 2 different kinds of Wellbutrin, one is 300mg, HCI, one is 150 mg xl, (for depression) I take metapropol (blood pressure) I use singuliar, and a combivent inhaler (asthma) and Xanax (very little, I only go through about 20 every 2mo) I take Ambien to help me sleep, over the counter doesn't work. I called in refills to my pharmacy a few days ago, just to be told that my insurance (medicaid) is no longer going to cover ANY of them. I am laid off work, and my husband was hurt so we have NO income. How can they just refuse to no longer pay for my meds? I have a co-pay on some, and obviously I comply. I do know that it isn't healthy to just stop taking anti-depressants, most people even have to be weined off of them, and I am losing everything. What can I do? All my meds are very beneficial for me to live a healthy life, both mentally and physically. I am open for ideas and suggestions. Someone told me that there are forms that I can get, or that my Dr. can obtain from the Mfg. Companies of my meds, and based on my income, I may qualify to receive these at little or no cost. I am just at a complete awe about this, I am really worried about what I am going to do......

I have been taking Wellbutrin XL 150mg for 4 weeks now and I honestly don't feel that anything has changed. I know that anti-depressants take time to work, but at what point is it obvious that the medicine is just not working and either a dosage increase is needed or a different medicine needs to be prescribed? How long does it usually take to feel its effects? My doctor told me that others will probably notice differences in my mood before I do, but according to my mom I am just as moody as before lol, and I still feel just as depressed. Should I give it a little more time? For people who have taken wellbutrin, what differences did you notice in yourself that made you know it was working?They are name brand. They are a small circle shape, white, and have WXL written over 150 on one side of the pill in pink letters. Before I got a presciption to get them from the pharmacy, my doctor gave me some trial ones in their original bottle, and the bottle was orange and white.

I was on 150 mg of Wellbutrin XL (the generic form, actually) for about 25 days. The last pill I took was 34 hours ago. Before that, the last pill I took was 2 days before that.I am in the wine business, and I need to taste different types of wines on a regular basis. I was told to avoid alcohol when taking Wellbutrin, so I have. But now my doctor thinks I should switch to an SSRI, which I will begin next week. He told me to discontinue the Wellbutrin.My question is this: tonight I have to go to a wine-tasting event for work. Would it be safe for me to drink some wine? How long will it take for the Wellbutrin to be out of my system?

Want to preface this by saying I have no liver problems, seizure history, or manic episodes(1).Have read that the effects from all 3 drugs I am on currently, have some advisory warnings related to seizure threshold when combined with wellbutrin(XL 150mg once per day) to be exact. Psychiatrist gave it to me to for 2 reasons 1: quit smoking as the adderall turned me into the marlboro man, so to speak. 2: Adderall seems to have decreased my sex drive(only blatant variable). I can't give up Adderall, because I am doing amazing on it ADHD wise and depression wise, as I am now jacked in, absorbing whatever I have to, instead of getting off track every 30 seconds. My Psychiatrist is obviously aware of everything I am on because she prescribed them to me. My question is: To what certainty can I ascertain that I won't develop seizures? I could do a percentile increase with each variable and see exactly where I would be. So my underlying question would be: Would you take the chance considering the pros and cons?Pros: All pro's are dependent on "if" the drug actually works for me. 1 quit smoking. 2: More intense-frequent orgasms. 3. Trying to get off Benzodiazepines(Xanax) for anxiety and panic attacks. 4. An overall, constant sense of well-being.Cons: Again, how I react to the drug 1. Seizures. 2. Serotonin Syndrome when in combination with an SSRI(Celexa). 3. Death from allergic reaction( not really a concern as I am not allergic to anything I have came across). 4. Any other complications, of which I am not aware. I am not worried about any other side effect (excluding allergic reaction/death) which comes with the territory[hell, nuts can kill somebody,("that's what she said")], because I am accustomed to suicidal thoughts, anxiety, etc.(1) Previously was diagnosed as bipolar, which was incorrect,because of comorbid personality defects associated with untreated ADHD, thus leading to my depression and anxiety, which stemmed from where I was at in my life conflicted with the image I have of myself. I went to the psychiatric hospital after a sudden cessation of my opiate abuse, hydrocodone, to be exact, which can lead to a plethora of acute mood swings, anger, etc. Have learned my lesson with opiates, to be sure.

I am in a big pickle right now. My insurance was denied and I had to make an "appeal" to see if I can get it back because I had made a mistake and forgot to send in a form when they were doing an audit at my fiances job.So, now I am out of health insurance for the next 30 days or more, and there is even a possibility I may not get it back. I have to wait and see if they will approve it. I have been dealing with on-off episodes of severe depression for as long as I can remember since childhood. I was passed around to different Dr.s etc and I was never diagnosed with anything concrete. One would say this, one would say that, I went from medication to medication, and never was never sent to a neurologist to see if I have an actual affective disorder etc. I have been hospitalized 3x for suicide attempts. The first time I was 13years old, I was in a comatose like state for 3 days. I was lucky to live after that.When I was 18 and moved away from home, things got better in a lot of ways, but also more and different issues have been arising. Since about age 18 or so now that I look back I see different patterns in my depression making me think possibly I have developed bipolar disorder.Now I am a new Mom of a 3 month old son. I came down with severe Postpartum depression. My family Dr. put me on Wellbutrin XL, and right after this, my insurance was denied. It seemed like it was working, but now I have episodes of extreme aggitation to the point I feel like I am a volcano about to explode. My whole body tenses from the anger, I feel it in my neck, head....It seems like my mood swings are worse. I get so mad that I sometimes feel the urge to slice my wrists or swallow a bottle of pills. It takes everything in my being to stay as composed as I can and push out these thoughts. I am starting to get scared. My fiance is scared, he says he has noticed I am just getting worse.I don't know what to do because I have no health insurance and I NEED to get help. I need to be able to care for my son and work to help support him. We are going through a hard enough time as it is in this economy, I have lost so many of my investments etc....everything is a struggle up hill it seems, and now dealing with this and a new family make is so much harder. I have a supportive family and fiance, but I need professional help. I don't know HOW to ween myself off this Wellbutrin or what to do when I run out? They are too expensive for me to afford without insurance. I just want to get better. I know I have a serious problem and I want to be better for my son. I dont know what to do, and I am so scared or losing my son ever since my family Dr. said that CPS can take him away if I don't get better; (she said that they can say you are unfit as a parent even if you are caring for him and there is no abuse, but just for the simple fact you have postpartum depression or other mental illness makes you a danger? ) I try not to think of this. I dont know if she is trying to scare me or what...I just try to focus on being more postive. I am looking for online forums for help and still searching for free therapy but have had no luck with anything in my area.



How to deal with mental illness when you have no insurance or money for medications?

Does anyone know much about this? i have been on Prozac 20mg and clonapin .5 mg since i was 11 and im 17 now. I think my Prozac stopped working so i got all my meds changed. 1st to wellbutrin xl 150mg then to wellbutrin with Prozac still with clonopin then i went to a different doctor he took me off wellbutrin n clonopin i went through withdraw with the clonopin for a few days, then went on 40mg of Prozac 5 mg of abilify and 25-50 mg depending on how i feel of something that starts with a z or an s for anxiety. and that is what i am on now. and i felt like the abilify was working really good for me but ive been feeling like i have restless leg syndrome since i started it and i just made the connection, i only started last week. I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow, but i wanted to see if anyone has any past experience with this and abilify.-depression-anxiety-body dismorphic disorder-paranoia

I've been on Vyvanse for almost 3 months now, 50 mg a day. It's my first time on ADHD medicine, but I've been on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for 18 months. When I began taking the Wellbutrin I weighed about 155 lbs, in Dec of 07. Since then I got down to about 137-140 consistently, but since I started taking Vyvanse my appetite is completely dead. I can't force myself to eat, because if I do then I get so sick that I have to go to the bathroom and try to throw up. I am NOT bulimic or anorexic. It's just miserable being at work every day and feeling so nauseated, so sometimes I just sit in the bathroom and hope that I can throw up - I don't make myself by gagging or anything.For the first time in my life I feel 110% confident in my body and am loving the way I look, but I know that if I continue not eating I'm not going to be healthy. When I started Vyvanse I was average 137-140 lbs. Today I weighed in at 122.8 lbs. Those 14 lbs were all lost within the last month, and it seems to be coming off even faster now. I've lost 7 pounds since last week. I'm 5'7" and 23 years old, and now my family (they don't know I'm on anything) is telling me that I look skinny, but I love how I look now. My point is - sorry I took so long to get there - that I want to know what I can consume each day to keep my nutrition from crashing, but without eating whole meals? I take vitamins, but is there something that I can put in my stomach so that at least I know I'm getting some sort of healthy substance? Like any specific sources of protein or something? Even when I did have an appetite I rarely ate meat, so lack of that is nothing new. I just need to find something to put me at ease about my body and make me feel like I'm not deteriorating. When I say "something I can eat without eating whole meals", I really do mean that I can't eat meals. An example of what I eat per day is a latte in the morning, and sometimes - if I act as soon as I feel the hunger - something such as a bowl of cereal for dinner. That is how my health is now, and I know the obvious answer would be "eat multiple small meals a day" etc etc, but I can't force myself to do that. That's why I'm asking if there's something small but has lots of nutrients? Please help with any suggestions... Thanks!



I barely eat because my Vyvanse kills my appetite - What can I eat to stay healthy?

I am going to be stopping Wellbutrin and starting Cymbalta this next week. I have taken Wellbutrin XL for about 3 years and it worked well til recently. I am going to switch to Cymbalta or possible take them both together depending on how things work. Can anyone give me any long term advice on how Cymbalta works and if it should be taken at night or morning? Does it make you tired or gain weight? I definitely need to lose due to trying Lexapro for 9 weeks I gained and stopped taking it... it made me super tired. Thanks for any input... Can anyone tell me the difference between Wellbutrin vs. Cymbalta?I actually feel great already weaning off the Wellbutrin. My dr. has me taking 1/2 the last 3 days and starting Cymbalta tonight.... I had NO energy and had slept the last 4 months every chance I got. The Wellbutrin definatley stopped working...and just tappering off has mad a world of difference the last couple of days.
