i started taking zoloft to treat my depression about 3-4 months ago. a few days ago i switched to wellbutrin because zoloft caused me to gain weight and made my ADD worse, but ever since i stopped zoloft my depression is coming back. has anyone had personal experience, or know someone, who has switched antidepressants? does anyone know how long it will take before i feel the full effects of wellbutrin?

Ok here's the deal:I went on Zoloft at the beginning of September to help with freshmen year college anxiety. It worked wonders for my social anxiety, but it did lead to a 15+ pound weight gain. This weight gain was NOT the "freshmen 15." I am extremely obsessive about my weight and refuse to eat the junk they serve here. I don't eat any meat besides fish, and my biggest meal of the day consists of tuna on salad with a lot of veggies and low fat balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I went to my doctor with my concerns and she said that the Zoloft probably messed with my metabolism.So she put me on Wellbutrin XL (generic). I have been on 300 mg for about four weeks now. Despite exercising for an hour each day and eating healthily, I feel as though I have lost absolutely nothing. I am scared to weigh myself because whenever I do now, I go into another fit of depression! I do not have the appetite suppressant feeling that a lot of people talk about on Wellbutrin. I do however feel as though I am extremely alert and focused and get a lot more done in the day, which is probably a good sign of my metabolism returning to normal?I have also been suffering from a compulsive "eating disorder not otherwise specified," chew & spit for about a year and a half. If you don't know, it's exactly what it sounds like, when I am stressed or sad I will chew a bunch of sweets or forbidden foods up and then spit them out. Gross I know. I have read that doing this can raise insulin levels and make it very difficult to lose weight (although I actually lost weight when I wasn't on any anti-depressants). Since being on Wellbutrin I have been able to start weening off of this disgusting behavior, but do still mess up sometimes.My question is, if I fully quit this eating disorder behavior, continue to diet and exercise, but still take Wellbutrin (I feel like it's helping), will I eventually be able to lose this weight? I feel like I should have seen results by now, but maybe I have to be more patient...I have heard that Wellbutrin is not supposed to cause weight GAIN but will it actually allow me to LOSE if I keep working at it? I couldn't lose on Zoloft no matter how hard I tried.Thanks for any answers.

I am 19 years old and making a doctor's appointment asap to talk to him about depression and anxiety. I have been depressed before, and took zoloft. It helped a bit, though i did gain some weight, which made me feel horrible. Eventually I stopped taking it, as I felt better. This was a few years ago. Now, my depression is much worse. Most days i dont even want to get out of bed, the longer i can stay in bed the shorter my day will be so i just try to sleep through the day. I have little social interaction with anyone anymore, and really have no desire to, yet i am miserable. I feel i have nothing to look forward to and have thought about, but never seriously considered suicide. However, I dont want to get worse. I was wondering what medications, or even a combination of two(one for depression and one for anxiety) that WILL NOT CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN. that would just make me more depressed...I have heard Wellbutrin is good for not gaining weight, but that it only treats depression. What are some good anxiety medications that i can talk to my doctor about? thanks i am around people all the time, as im a college student. i simply dont have the desire to socialize, so any medications that would help with this would be greatlol i also exercise..idk what else to do. i eat well too

I am currently on Paxil and other medicines. When I started the Paxil, I gained weight. I will see my doctor this coming week and I want to maybe change my medicine. However, Paxil is good. I hate to mess things up, but my weight is depressing me badly. I gained back almost all the weight I lost last year. I have tried many in the past, but it has been awhile. I remember that Wellbutrin does not work for me and Cymbalta made me want to die. Any others you suggest?



What are some good medicines for depression that do not cause weight gain?

I've been prescribed Zoloft (100mg) & while mentally it worked well, physically I couldn't handle it (too tired). I liked that it made me stop eating emotionally. Mainly, I stopped taking it because I could not focus on grad. school work & didn't care about my classes. I got switched to Wellbutrin SR (150x2/day) and physically worked out (a little crack-headed though) but mentally I became moody & unstable. Again, I liked that it reduced my appetite. Now, I've been switched Lexapro (10) but I'm worried about the weight gain & I'm almost ready to just stop trying to find something that will reduce my anxiety. Given my past experiences, should I worry about taking Lexapro (weight gain, motivation/focus) or try to tell my dr. to just give me something for my paranoia & mini anxiety attacks? I am so new to all of this & confused.



Will Lexapro cause weight gain if Zoloft didn't?

I have been taking Wellbutrin for several years, and I have steadily gained weight while doing so. Unfortunately, when I tried switching to other medication, I continued experiencing problems with depression. I am now 18 years old and weigh around 210 lbs. I realise how incredibly unhealthy this is, and that morbid obesity can cause innumerable problems later in life. How likely is it that my weight will level off, now that I am technically an adult? Or do I need to look into new medication options again?

I'm on Wellbutrin XL 300mg, and have been for over a year. I need a boost, so the doctor gave me Lexapro 10mg. I'm wary to take the medication because of the side effects--including weight gain (major cause of depression for me) and loss of energy. Wellbutrin makes me drowsy enough--anything more and I will be falling asleep in public. I do not have anxiety, just depression.Anyone have experience with this combination? Side effects? Is upping the dosage of Wellbutrin better?Thanks.To clarify: what I mean by "needing a boost" is my depression is seasonal, and it worsens between March and May.
