Hello,A natural Dr. suggested 5-HTP to help w/ migraines/fibromyalgia. I usually sleep okay and go to bed at the same time each night, but sometimes pain keeps me up. I tried 50mg of 5-HTP before bed (around 10:30pm) since I was told it could make you tired as it is also used to treat insomnia.Well...I wish I wouldn't have taken it because it is now 11am and I am still awake!I never have this problem and it is really frustrating because I have a big event tomorrow and I need my rest. I've already now missed a day of sleep and my fibro symptoms get a lot worse when I don't sleep.I am very disappointed that 5-HTP caused this as I thought it was supposed to help. I've looked online and it said in few people it can cause insomnia. The only other time I ever felt like this was when I tried an anti-depressant Wellbutrin or Effexor...I could not sleep.I am not on any meds now so I know it is the 5-HTP that caused my insomnia.Why did this happen and how can I sleep!!!???thanks for your replies:1. I do take 4,000 IU vit D every day2. A sleep specialist MD suggested melatonin but it didn't really help3. I guess I had thought I must have low serotonin if I have migraines/minor depression/insomnia/fibromyalgia. I thought these disorders have 'low serotonin' in common?That said...I won't be taking the 5-HTP again.



Why did taking 5-HTP give me insomnia when it is supposed to treat insomnia?

I started on Wellbutrin XL 150mg Jan 2009 and increased to 300mg in October 2009. Well, I now want to get of completely because I have not been feeling well: tired, headaches,crabby,etc. and I told my psychiatrist that I would like to start therapy and stop Wellburtin because I want to "feel" again (I can't even cry anymore as much as I try!). So he told me not to take it anymore. Um HELLO!!! I told him that I was afraid of withdraw and he said that there's not too many side effects with withdrawing off of Wellburtin. Well, I read differently online! So I am scared to tears. Why would he tell me to just stop completely?? I have some 150mg pills left and am tempted to start taking those-do you think I will have any effects from dropping the dose?Kelle: it's my dr. who told me to go cold turkey though. I don't want to but what can I do if he tells me to?



Quitting Wellburtin XL cold turkey?

I'm 9 1/2 weeks pregnant with my second baby and for about 2 months I've been having trouble breathing. I have to frequently take deep breaths and sometimes after taking several, I still do not feel like I got the refreshing breath of air I needed. I visited my family doctor and discussed the problems I was having. She mentioned that it could be Asthma or even allergies. She gave me a prescription for the generic form of Claritin (for the allergies) and told me to check with my OB about taking a Pulmonary Function Test (due to use of an inhaler during the test). My OB gave the go ahead and I took the test today. I'm really frustrated with how things went and I need some advice on what to do.First of all, she told me that the results of the PFT were inaccurate and explains that it is usually due to the lack of "coaching" from the test administrator (nurse). Then she goes on to say that she was able to get some results from the test and that I have Asthma. After telling me she is going to write me a prescription for an inhaler, I told her that I did not feel any better after taking the inhaler during the test. I asked if the prescription would be for the same thing, and she said it was. Then she goes on to say that if the inhaler didn't work I must be suffering from anxiety and tells me she is going to write me a prescription for Wellbutrin (but wants me to check with my OB on that one too). Now this one boggles my mind. I told her that I didn't really understand what anxiety was. As she was explaining it to me she started talking about how there is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed of (okay???) and how stress can have this affect on people. Now let me tell you, I am probably one of the least stressed people in this world and I feel very blessed to have it that way. And, even when I am stressed I feel that I handle it very well. On top of that I'm a pretty easy going happy-go-lucky type of person. I am a stay at home mom with a 20 month old daughter and I have a pretty laid back life. If anything I would say that it's more boring than anything lol. Yes, I have one on the way, but I feel way more comfortable with this one having went through it before than I did with my first baby. I have a stable life and a great husband (most of the time lol) that loves me more than anyone in the world. I just don't understand where the anxiety would come in.To sum it all up I have a prescription for Claritin because the allergies are causing these problems (which she told me to continue taking but IMO hasn't made a difference), I have a prescription for an inhaler because it's Asthma that is causing these problems and now she wants to write me a script for Wellbutrin because it must be anxiety.I am the type of person that takes medicine as a last resort. I just don't like to do it especially during pregnancy. On top of that I put doctors in the same category as mechanics, I don't mean any disrespect but I just have a hard time trusting them. It seems like she gave me a prescription for everything it COULD be. But has no clue what it actually is. I don't know what to do. I'm probably not going to take the Wellbutrin though. From what I read online it's mainly prescribed for depression and to help stop smoking. I don't think pregnancy is the time to start taking a serious drug like this. I'll probably stop taking the Claritin because it seems to have made no difference.What do I do? How can I get to the bottom of my problem? Has anything like this happened to you?

I have been depressed off and on throughout my life due to some traumatic things that have happened in my past. I have taken several tests online that all end up the same... I am depressed. I will go a few weeks where I am fine, but 1 little thing will remind me of these things that happened to me in the past, and down I go. I replay in my mind what happened to me, and I cant stop it. I start to get very worried, and I feel like I am trying to climb out of a deep dark hole. I spend most of the day crying. It makes it very difficult to work, and its really not fair to my kids. I find it very hard to concentrate when I am going through these spells, and its hard to enjoy any activities with my kids. I am basically useless. I cant help them with their homework, and I get irritated very easily. Anyway, it takes about 2 or 3 weeks to get over it, and I may be fine for up to few months, but once I see or hear something that reminds me of this bad thing again, I go through the battle once again. I tried applying for Medicaid, but the case worker said that I make too much money to be eligible for it. I was surprised to hear that seeing as I can barely pay my basic bills, and their is no way possible for me to afford health insurance for myself at this time. Anyway, I ordered a sample pack of Wellbutrin online. It was enough for 2 weeks. After the first week of taking them, I noticed that they really helped me. Obviously, I cant afford to go to a therapist on a regular basis. If I save up like $100.00 to have a session with a therapist, and they diagnose me with depression, and give me a prescription, will I just keep getting refills on it until I am all better, or do I have to keep forking out money to go back and keep seeing the therapist in order to keep on the prescription? I am depressed and its getting worse! What do I do?

Does anyone have any recommendations on what to take to help me sleep with Wellbutrin? I don't want anything with addictive potential, or withdrawal symptoms - preferably not associated with weight gain either.I'm experimenting with melatonin right now. 1 mg helps me to get to sleep, but I wake up super early (like before 6 am) no matter what time I get to sleep. It doesn't affect my energy levels during the day at all - I am super active, but I don't know about the long-term effects of only getting 5 hours of sleep a night even tho the anti-depressant is helping me to feel awake. 3 mg of melatonin is proving to be way too much, I am slowed down and drowsy the whole next day. Perhaps I should try to find 2 mg but they're not locally available - I might just order online.Just wanted to see what suggestions there might be.

Mid December I was under a lot of stress. I was depressed, then something hit me I felt all my emotion shut down.i just thought it was a panic attack. So I waited a week still no change. Then I look up online what could cause that That when I first came across DP/DR. That scared the hell out of me. I was so Depressed, bad headache, couldn't sleep, felt crazy. Called up my local counseling center, they set me up with a crisis counselor. She told me that depression was causing the numbness. Since I have no health insurance it been hard for me to see a doctor. So they set me up for free counseling and sent me to the hospital. That was hell, they gave med's that cause me to break out and couldn't breath. Got out with still the same problem but felt better. could focus better, some old thought pattern were coming back. But the numbness really was taking its toll. a few week later I went back to the CCenter, talk to a doctor he gave me Wellbutrin. Then all hell broke free. I could feel for a split second some emotion, but then the panic attack would hit me hard two a day, then everything seem dream like. I was terrified.I couldn't focus, couldnt even watch TV anymore thoughts were all over the place. thought were I had DP, My life is over I felt dead no emotion with this dream state all the time. This all started a week ago the dream state. Now I have a history of anxiety and depression but never where I couldn't function. Going back this week to see my counselor to tell her what going on. I feel so crazy right now. If I do have DP/Dr could it just be an episode, under my Major depression and stress. It just been a month and all the dream like stuff has been a week so far. I heard it takes three month before they label you as having depersonalization disorder. I don't know I feel like an stranger in the mirror. I'm praying that if I found the right meds and get the depression treated and feel my emotion again this will all pass and it was all my nerves and my obsessive thinking I have DP/Dr.No longer on wellbutrin, been a week.

Common ingredient in Levsin and Wellbutrin?? I have the same reaction to both drugs. Itchy rash and welts. Swollen joints and painful welt on the palms of my hands and the souls of my feet. I stopped the wellbutrin today because of Dr.'s orders, and i haven't had Levsin since i was a toddler. I can call my pharmacist in the morning I was just wondering if there was a way I could find out online. Thanks everyone!
